Competitive Priorities

Competitive priorities is defined as the critical operational dimensions a process or supply chain must possess to satisfy internal or external customers, both now and in the future.

The ranking and/or ordering of the dimensions can vary from market to market, business to business, and from branch to branch.  Although, the Designer Shoe Warehouse may place its emphasis on the dimension of cost as its top priority that may not be true for its numerous establishments throughout.  Incorporating a mix of priorities has allowed DSW to maintain is position in the market place and such an example of that mix will be from the Watchung, NJ branch where their priorities are as follows:

Quality

We're looking at quality in the sense that customer service is of the top priority. Every store can have a different priority but we decided that customer service is very important. The way you treat your customers can make or break your reputation. Happy customers are guaranteed to come back, in the other hand  if a customer isn't treated right, they will share their experience with others and before you know it your store is loosing customers that never even walked in . We have realized that competition is so tough  and that our products may even be the same as others but what makes us stand out from other stores is we put our customers first. We have employees constantly on the floor ready to answer questions and to give our customers the experience they need. From helping them with finding the right shoe size to giving them details on the best buys. We understand that customer satisfaction is essential and that comes only with quality service and that's why we do so well.

Flexibility
If the customer is the life blood of any business it will be the employees/staff that are the backbone.  This can tie back to enhancing the quality dimension as to being able to continue to provided exceptional customer service when the volume picks up, or as it is often referred to on the floor as a "pop."  When such an event occurs zones must have coverage to help fellow associates cater to the demand of volume.

 Cost
Current as well as prospective customers are constantly looking for a bargain and with "warehouse" in our name it is synonymous with savings.  Considering surrounding towns as Broundbrook, North Plainfield, and Scotch Plains harboring middle-income families it would be naive to believe that high quality goods will be had at high prices.  The opposite is more true, and this should be recognized in any market, that the goods are more in demand when the prices are more appealing.

Time
It would not be wise to say that time was "not important";  time is certainly a valuable resource to not turn a blind eye to.  Time is something that this particular establishment offers to its customers liberally.  We want that traffic to remain within the store for as long as possible and in turn we continue to offer top quality customer service in hopes to extending that stay.  The more exposure we have, more than likely a purchase will be made.  Very little maintenance is needed to maintain and monitor time.
